Book Group To Discuss “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society”

Evergreen Community Library’s book discussion group will meet at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, to discuss “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” by Mary Ann Shaffer.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society begins in January 1946, when popular author Juliet Ashton, much like her fellow British citizens, is emerging from the dark days of World War II. As Juliet exchanges a series of letters with her publisher and her best friend, readers immediately warm to this author in search of a new subject in the aftermath of war. By the time Juliet receives an unexpected query from Dawsey Adams, we are caught in a delightful web of letters and vivid personalities and eager for Juliet to find the inspiration she seeks.
“The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” will be the first book to start off our fall book discussion. Books in regular and large print will be available after August 23, 2010 at the circulation desk. Plan to join Jane Dominique as the new book discussion facilitator.

Come See the New Library Display:

A special display of WWII books from the library’s collection will also commemorate the historic events of August and September of 1945 that lead to the end of the war.

Does A Hero Lie In You?

Saturday, September 18th from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Citizenship Day is September 17th! In honor of this special national holiday, children in first grade and beyond, along with their families are invited to an inspiring program promoting heroic citizenry. We will be learning about heroic citizens like Roger Durbin from Berkey, Ohio who originated the idea of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. and Hannah Turner, a four year old from Perrysburg, Ohio who began the organization, "Hannah's Socks", a charity for the homeless. Come celebrate your unique talents and learn how to use them to perform heroic deeds that can make a difference for your community, state, and country. We encourage you to bring a pair of new socks to help support "Hannah's Socks"! Come be inspired to find the hero that lies in you!

The Library’s Free Farmers Market

If you have an abundance of fresh produce from your garden, please bring it to the library. A table has been set up in the library vestibule as a free Farmers Market. Feel free to bring and/or take items from the table. Stop by this week and see what's new at the market.

Successful Take III

On Saturday, July 31st, Elizabeth Knipp was back to present the program "True You - Take III". Nine young ladies attended the program and learned about self-esteem, healthy living, etiquette, relationships and social networking safety. We would like to give a special thank you to Lori Hein for providing the girls with Mary Kay samples and to Tanya Lumbrezer for providing the girls with Avon samples.  These product samples were included in a gift bag for each girl to take home.

A special display area has been created to highlight newly added items to the library collection that were generously donated by our patrons. Our thanks to this month’s donators: The Christopherson Family, Patty Helm, Tanya Murd, The Family of Karen Donahue Pinkelman and Martha & Susan Seger.
